Over Christmas time, after spending quality time and enjoying the company of family members prompts many people to dig into into their family history.

Now Solihull Council has started an initiative to help people kick start their research through the help and information available at local libraries or on the Council’s website.

The council has made available at all libraries in Solihull a subscription to the Ancestry website to allow people access the census returns 1841-1901 for England, Wales, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man, as well as birth, marriage and death indexes for England and Wales 1837-2005 completely free of charge from library computers.

Solihull Central Library also offers other resources such as divorce indexes and past newspapers on microfilm.

For people who prefer to carry out their research from the comfort of their own home, the Council offers useful information on its website at: www.solihull.gov.uk/familyhistory

For more help and information call into the Heritage and Local Studies Service at Solihull Central Library or visit your local branch library.
