Add News

For people in Solihull keen to experience the Hindu Diwali and New Year Celebration can see it on Sunday 18th October 2009 from 12pm to 8pm at the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir (Hindu Temple) in Hall Green.

The visitors to the Hindu Temple BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Hall Green, near Solihull in Birmingham are definitely in for a treat at the Diwali celebrations. It is believed the preparations have started a long time ago, in fact for several months to make the event the most lively and vibrant to date.

The celebrations will be held at the popular Birmingham temple on Sunday 18 October between 12noon and 8pm. The central attraction will be the 'Annakut' (literally, 'a mountain of food'), a grand offering of hundreds of different vegetarian food items. All the dishes are offered to the deities with faith and devotion as a traditional form of thanksgiving. Vibrant displays, flickering lamps, and classical Indian sounds and dancing will provide the perfect backdrop for the festival.

In addition to the above, an array of visuals, presentations and multimedia shows in an exhibition area will show the rich culture, heritage and values of Hinduism. There will also a special area for the kids who will be able to enjoy games, face painting and henna designs on their hands.

Book stalls and food stalls will also be in operation throughout the day and everyone will have the chance to share the food offered in the Annakut at the end of the day after 8pm. This year, Diwali falls on Saturday 17 October. The temple will be open to all visitors during the day and will also host a grand fireworks display at 8.40pm.
