Geography of Solihull

Geography of Solihull The metropolitan borough Solihull lies between the motorways of M6 and the M40 and the M42 dividing the urban centre of the borough from the rural south and east. There is a short automatic light transport system linking the airport to the Birmingham International railway station. This ideal and convenient transport links have resulted to a number of large businesses to establish a base in the borough, such as Land Rover, the National Exhibition Centre and Birmingham International Airport just to name a few. About 75% of the borough is greenbelt and a large proportion of that is worked farmland. The boundaries of Birmingham lies to the west and north of the borough, Coventry to the east, Warwickshire to both the north and south, and Worcestershire to the south west. The borough contains a sizeable rural area known as the Meriden Gap (after the village of Meriden) which serves as a green belt separating the Birmingham conurbation from the City of Coventry. Solihull is considered to be a dormitory town for Birmingham to which it is joined, although many Solihull residents now work within the town and many commute daily to towns and cities outside the Birmingham conurbation.
